Nine years later: 84-year-old cuts hair for Locks of Love

Catherine L. Franklin, 84, has been letting her hair grow for nine years to donate to Locks of Love. Last week, she decided it was time. With the help of Flagler Technical Institute’s cosmetology program, Franklin got her hair cut to be donated; it will be used to make wigs for cancer patients.
 

+ Fashion show to benefit cancer survivors
Cynthia Black, host of “FYI on the 411” on WNZF News Radio, will present a fashion show benefiting cancer survivors 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at Vince Carter’s Restaurant, 2150 LPGA, Daytona Beach.

The theme of the fashion show is “Phenomenal Woman,” featuring cancer survivors modeling fashions from their personal wardrobes. Retired Army Col.Lloyd Freckleton, of Flagler Beach, is a male breast cancer survivor and will be the guest speaker.

There will also be a special appearance by the president of NBA Moms, Lucille O’Neal, mother of Shaquille O’Neal, retired NBA champion.

Black is a retired California runway model, with a passion for looking and feeling good and helping others. A resident of Palm Coast for 12 years, she has owned a number of fashion shops in Flagler County. Tickets for the event are $50. For information on becoming a sponsor, call 546-1817.
