+ Princess Place bridge set for October
Construction is currently in progress for a new bridge at Princess Place Preserve. The trusses are planned to be set next week, and the project is expected to be completed by October.

+ Flagler County plans Hurricane Expo
Flagler County Emergency Services will host its 2012 Hurricane Expo, titled “Flagler County Prepares!” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28.

Steve Letro, National Weather Service chief meteorologist, will be the featured guest.

The Kids Witness Weather Station will be looking for junior meteorologists to broadcast the weather live on the WNZF Saturday morning radio shows, as well, from the EOC broadcast booth. Kids can also try on real firefighting gear and have their picture taken with Freckles the Fire Dog.

Flagler’s first responders will demonstrate their internationally recognized paramedic skills.

Prizes will be given out throughout the day. The event is free. Call 313-4200.

+ VPK registration now open
Registration for the 2012-2013 VPK program is now open. For the full list of all approved VPK providers in Flagler, visit www.elcfv.org. Most programs begin Monday, Aug. 20.

Registration is available in person at the Early Learning Coalition of Flagler and Volusia, at 800 E. Howe St., in Bunnell. Call 437-8236.

+ Unemployment climbs to 12.3%
The June unemployment data released by the Center for Business Excellence showed Flagler County at 12.3%, making it the second highest in the state, behind Hendry County. Volusia was 9.1.%.

+ Strong Women Healthy Hearts
The University of Florida Extension Service is offering a 12-week Strong Women Healthy Hearts Program.

Developed by Tufts University, the program runs for three months, with classes held twice weekly.

An information meeting will be held 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at the Flagler County Extension office, at 150 Sawgrass Road, in Bunnell, for women 18 and older. Limited to 20 participants, the course is $45. Classes will start Aug. 20. Call 437-7464.

Flagler Votes Forum – the inaugural Flagler Votes Forum will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at 4101 E. Moody Blvd.
