Sounds of praise filled the sanctuary at Mount Calvary Baptist Church as the congregation rejoiced through song and dance. It was the scene inside the church, at the annual fall revival Tuesday, Oct. 25, through Thursday, Oct. 27, held to revitalize church spirit.

The three-day revival was based on Jeremiah 20:9 and featured a guest pastor, the Rev. Phillip Pointer Sr., of Providence St. John Baptist Church, of Brandywine, Md.

“The Baptist Church, especially African American Baptist churches, have revivals a couple times a year to renew enthusiasm,” said Mount Calvary Baptist Deacon James C. Foster. “It is designed to re-energize, revitalize and recharge the spiritual batteries of folks who come to church.”

Mount Calvary has been participating in the tradition of revivals since the church’s beginning 14 years ago.

“You can grow lethargic if you don’t make changes to pump up the service from time to time,” Foster said. “Having someone not seen before, it helps to get us to be revived and more eager.”

Mount Calvary Baptist, 75 Pine Lakes Parkway S., holds services 11 a.m. Sundays, and prayer and praise 8:30 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. Wednesdays.
