A Palm Coast man was arrested Tuesday on charges of drug possession and child neglect after being found with a 4- to 5-foot marijuana plant seated next to a child in a green Cadillac, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.
The man, Joshua Michael Spaulding, was arrested after his former landlord told deputies that Spaulding and his roommate had been growing narcotics inside his rental property on Beacon Mill Lane. The landlord told deputies that the renters were in the process of moving a marijuana cultivation system into a vehicle, noting that Spaulding’s girlfriend was associated with a green, four-door Cadillac.
While on his way to the scene, a deputy noticed the car traveling south on Beacon Mill Lane, away from the home. The deputy stopped the car and found the marijuana plant inside, less than one foot away from the juvenile in the car.
Spaulding told the deputy that he and his girlfriend had been evicted from the residence in December, and that he had returned to the residence to pick up the plant and a system for a friend. Spaulding admitted the plant was marijuana, but denied that it belonged to him.
A container carrying a large lamp, multiple hoses and towels was located in the trunk of the vehicle. Spaulding identified the property as tools used in the cultivation of the plant.
Spaulding was booked into the Flagler County Inmate Facility on $2,500 bond.
