Three men traveling from Miami to New York were arrested Wednesday afternoon after troopers pulled their SUV over for “extremely dark window tint and a tinted tag cover” and later found marijuana, guns and stolen credit cards inside the vehicle, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
Caisy Frank, 32, of Rosedale, N.Y., Allen Howard, 35, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Clyde Keys, 22, of Brookyn, N.Y., were all being held in the Flagler County Inmate Facility Wednesday afternoon on a combined 38 charges and $180,000 bond.
Around 1 p.m., a Florida Highway Patrol trooper noticed a white SUV traveling northbound on Interstate 95, near mile marker 281.
Caisy, who was driving the SUV, told the trooper that the vehicle was rented with the tint.
“While talking with (Caisy), I noticed a strong odor known to me as raw cannabis coming from the vehicle’s interior,” the report states.
The trooper returned to his cruiser to run the driver’s license and called for assistance because the car had three occupants and because of the smell of cannabis.
Caisy told troopers they left New York to visit people in Miami and also stopped in Orlando earlier Wednesday.
After troopers provided a written warning for the illegal window tint, the three occupants exited the vehicle. A K-9 deputy was called in to sniff around the vehicle. K-9 Ronnie made a positive alert by scratching on the car, the report states.
Caisy was asked if he had marijuana in the vehicle, to which he replied: “No, but we did smoke marijuana in the car earlier today.”
However, Howard told troopers that no one smoked inside the SUV.
All three were placed in the backseat of a patrol car, and troopers conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle.
That search revealed two handguns hidden in black socks and two loaded magazines in another sock. One of the guns was stolen.
Another trooper located 12 credit cards, all with different names on them, and pieces of marijuana on the floorboard of the vehicle. A small credit card scanner was also located and a handwritten list of credit card numbers was found, too. A blank check was also located under a floor mat.
Further search revealed “dozens” of blank PayPal MasterCard cards and a piece of equipment used to stamp numbers into blank credit cards, according to the report.
An additional card reader, three laptops, an iPod, multiple iPhones, 10 new iPods and cash were found in the car, along with piles of “expensive clothing and jewelry, which all still ahd the tags on it," the report states.
“All subjects advised they knew nothing about the guns, credit cards, credit card machines that were found in the vehicle,” the report states.
Troopers also found screw drivers, gloves and binoculars inside the vehicle.
Caisy was arrested on 13 charges and was being held on $90,000 bond. Howard was arrested on 12 charges and was being held on $35,000 bond. Keys was arrested on 13 charges and was being held on $55,000 bond.
