A Hammock woman who called 911 in September 2015 saying she believed she'd shot and killed her husband will spend the rest of her life in prison.
A jury of four women and two men found Anna Pehota, now 76, guilty of second-degree murder with a firearm in connection with her 77-year-old husband John's death.
Anna Pehota shot John Pehota four times with a .22-caliber handgun the afternoon of Sept. 23, 2015 after the couple had an argument at their home on Sanchez Avenue, according to Flagler County Sheriff's Office reports. John Pehota had dementia, and Anna Pehota had been his caretaker.
The jury deliberated for about an hour and a half July 22, the third day of the trial, before coming to a verdict, a State Attorney's Office spokesman said. Pehota has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
