The Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs (1-0) began their season with a 77-49 trouncing of the Seabreeze Sandcrabs Tuesday, Nov. 24, at FPC.

“We were playing with a lot of intensity, a lot of energy early, and it worked for us until we had to settle into the game,” coach Gary McDaniel said. “We played with a lot of intensity and a lot of energy but not a lot of brains. Once I got them to slow down, and we got everything in front of us, the game changed, and it kept changing, and it worked out for us.”

The Bulldogs opened the game with a 9-3 lead, but the Sandcrabs’ defensed forced numerous turnovers, which led to a 10-0 run to close out the quarter to put them up 13-9.

In the second quarter, FPC settled down and both teams took turns leading until halftime, where the Bulldogs went into the locker room with a small 29-26 advantage.

The second belonged to FPC, who used an 18-0 run to separate from the ‘Crabs, and ended up leading by as many as 30 points before sending in its reserves.

“I think we’ll continue to get better each game,” McDaniel said. “It was a good crowd here, and that kind of made the kids want to make play a little bit more, but I think they’ll settle down and start playing Bulldogs basketball, and I think we’ll really get going.”

FPC plays next in the Matanzas Kiwanis Shootout, which will take place Friday and Saturday at Matanzas.
