Florida Hospital Flagler cardiac rehabilitation manager Lisa Wilkinson visited Bunnell, Rymfire and Wadsworth elementary schools recently to teach students involved in the 21st Century Community Learning Center about the importance of nutrition, health and fitness.
The 21st Century Community Learning Center is a free academic enrichment program — paid for with a five-year $2.5 million grant — for qualifying students at Flagler County’s three elementary schools.
During this event, Wilkinson emphasized the significant role nutrition plays in health and said that most children in America don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, empty calories from added sugars and solid fats make up about 40% of children’s and adolescents’ daily calories, which severely impacts the overall quality of their diets.
To actively engage the students, Wilkinson gave each child five bracelets to wear and challenged the students to move a bracelt from one wrist to the other after eating a serving of fruits and vegetables.
Coquina Landscape LLC donated ground cover and plants on March 8 for the Invisible Wounds Memorial at Heroes Park in Palm Coast.

John Anderson will succeed Tom Hellman as Volusia/Flagler SCORE Chapter 87 president. Hellman held the position for two years and will now transition to be assistant director for operations.
Anderson has been a certified mentor at the organization since 2015, and he is the owner of J Steven Anderson Consulting Group LLC.
“Tom's leadership guided our Chapter to the top 20% of 300 National Chapters by earning a Platinum Award for three years in a row,” Anderson said in a press release. “I plan on continuing the legacy and leading our chapter on a path of continued success.”
SCORE Chapter 87 has 45 mentors. Debbie Lashinsky serves as vice chair, Emilie Higgins as treasurer, and Rosalie Kalman as secretary.
The Volusia/Flagler SCORE Chapter has been in existence for 51 years. Last year, the organization provided over 1,000 counseling services and 63 free workshops. Call 255-6889 or visit www.score87.org.
Heather Edwards has been named interim president of the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce. Edwards has been with the chamber since 2008.
“I’m grateful to take on this expanded role with the chamber and appreciate the board of director’s confidence in me,” Edwards said in a press release. “I am eager to interact more with our members and to lead the Chamber’s team as we continuing advancing forward.”

Palm Coast’s Food Truck Tuesdays will kick off for 2017 on Tuesday, March 21. Food and family fun is 5-8 p.m. along Park Street next to Central Park in Town Center, 975 Central Ave.
Each Food Truck event features free entertainment and about a dozen food trucks – mobile kitchens, canteens and catering trucks that offer up gourmet foods including appetizers, main dishes, side dishes and desserts. Many menus are kid-friendly.
This month the event welcomes the Game Time Game Truck for entertainment – offering a free gaming experience for groups or individuals in a mobile video game theater.
Food Truck Tuesdays will be held every month, on the third Tuesday of the month, from March through November 2017.
Each month, Food Truck Tuesdays supports a family-oriented non-profit organization in the community. Proceeds for the opening night will go toward the Palm Coast Parks & Recreation Summer Camp Scholarship Fund. Call 986-2323.
Jennifer Perez recently purchased Covenant Closing and Title Services from the former owner, Vicky Le Tellier.
Also, Rebecca Carr has been promoted to vice president of operations at the company. Covenant Closing and Title Services is hosting a ribbon cutting, along with the Flagler County Chamber, 4-6 p.m. March 17, at 4879 Palm Coast Parkway NW, Unit 5.
