Susan Moore and her daughter, Montana Bigelow, were having dinner on Oct. 18, at Cracker Barrel in Palm Coast, when the floor started "crackling."

"All of a sudden, we hear chairs go flying, and these guys start running in different directions," recalled Moore, who is also an account manager at the Palm Coast Observer.

She said at first she thought it was a fight, but then she saw that the floor under one of the tables had buckled. "It looked like what an earthquake would have done to the floor," Moore said.

She called 9-1-1, and the fire department arrived. Fortunately, no one was hurt, according to a Flagler County Sheriff's Office spokesperson.

Palm Coast Code Enforcement investigated the building on Oct. 19 and concluded that it was not a sink hole, but there was no immediate answer as to what might have caused the problem.

Cracker Barrel employees declined to comment, but business appeared to be back to normal on the morning of Oct. 19. Moore recalled that an employee on Oct. 18 said, "Move back. There's a lot of gasses under this building." The Observer could not confirm whether gasses had anything to do with the floor buckling.

Moore said the incident was scary and that her 17-year-old daughter originally thought it had been a bomb, after having seen terrorist incidents in the past on TV.

Jonathan Simmons contributed to this report.
