The new trailhead will have 30 parking spaces.

Construction on a new trailhead located off Colbert Lane for the Lehigh Trail will begin in September, county officials said Monday.

The trailhead will cost $472,758.50 and will be constructed by Bean Construction Inc., of Holly Hill. Bean Construction came in with the lowest of five bids. Local preference could not be used on the project because it’s being federally funded.

A majority of the project, $470,004, will be reimbursed to the county through the Local Agency Program agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation, which the county agreed to in November 2011. The remaining $2,754.50 will be paid for with county money.

Construction will begin in September, according to Carl Laundrie, the county’s communications manager. The Flagler County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved the project at its Monday, July 2, regular meeting.

Also, according to the project agreement, $24,491 (5%) is requested for “unforeseen field conditions.”

SCHOOL TO LEASE AT AIRPORT
Global Outreach Charter Academy of Palm Coast Inc., a Russian bilingual school with a target enrollment of 364 in its first year, will soon be located at the Flagler County Airport.

The Flagler County Board of County Commissioners on Monday approved a three-year lease agreement for the charter school to be located in the building that once housed Embry-Riddle’s Commercial Airline Pilot Training program.

The lease calls for $11,000 per month rent from Aug. 1, 2012, through Oct. 30, 2012. Then for Nov. 1, 2012, through July 31, 2015, the rent payments increase to $13,500 per month.

County Commissioner Milissa Holland said the school locating to the airport benefits both parties.
