Report of reckless driving leads cops to stolen car

2:40 p.m. Intersection of Chapel Street and East Booe Street, Bunnell. Reckless driver: A deputy was dispatched to the area of Chapel Street and East Booe Street to check into a report of a silver Ford F-150 pickup driving recklessly. The deputy saw the truck, and tried to do a traffic stop, according to a case report. But when he turned on his lights, the truck — with two people inside — sped off. The deputy didn't pursue, "due to the erratic driving of suspect vehicle, in an attempt to avoid harm to life and property," according to the report. The deputy found the truck, empty with some minor damage, about 15 minutes later. It had been reported stolen from a dealership in Starke, in Bradford County, Florida.

Cops find wanted man hiding under laundry pile

8:07 p.m. 500 block of Pine Street, Bunnell. Warrant arrest: A deputy got information that a man wanted in Volusia County for violating his probation for attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle was living at a home in Bunnell. Deputies and a Bunnell cop went to the home, where the homeowner, a woman, told them the man wasn't there. But she gave them permission to search the home, where a deputy opened a closet in the master bedroom and "noticed two legs sitting in a pile of clothing in the closet," according to the deputy's report. The deputy drew his gun and commanded the legs' owner — who was the man the cops were looking for — to show his hands. He did, and deputies handcuffed him and arrested him.
