Toxic Waste
10 p.m. — First Block of Kingswood Drive. Criminal Mischief. A deputy made contact with the manager of a hotel. The manager stated while an employee was cleaning the bathrooms by the gated and locked pool area, they discovered someone had damaged the toilet and ceiling vent from the bathroom.
Upon inspection, it appeared an unknown suspect entered the bathroom and placed an unknown chemical or flammable material into the toilet bowl and set it on fire. There was a large amount of carbon buildup on the ceiling above the toilet and on the vent fan which had melted off. The damage suggested the flames from the fire had nearly reached the ceiling. The toilet had also shattered at some point. The damage appeared to be several hours old with no active smoke or fire.
The Palm Coast Fire Department responded to the scene to inspect the damage of the structure. After reviewing the damage the Fire Marshall was contacted as it was still unknown what caused the damage. The hotel manager estimated the damage to be approximately $200. No evidence was gathered from hotel security cameras.

No Purchase Necessary?
2:40 p.m. — 100 Block of Cypress Point Parkway. Larceny Shoplifting. A deputy responded to a store in reference to a shoplifter in custody. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a Loss Prevention Associate. The store associate advised that he observed a male select a pair of jeans from the men’s department which he returned to customer service for a refund of $25.63.
The store associate confronted the male and escorted him back to the loss prevention office. While in custody, the male commented that had it been $100 he would have fought and ran. The male also stated that he purchased the same pair of jeans a week ago.
The male acted casually about committing the crime and seemed proud that he had previously served prison time for grand theft. The male was then released with a notice to appear in court for retail theft.
Jan. 16
In Hot Water
7 p.m. — 100 Block of Birchwood Drive. Stolen Vehicle. A deputy responded in reference to a stolen boat. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a man stating his 17 inch aluminum boat was missing from the dock. The man stated he found the small chain and combination lock to secure the boat in the grass nearby.
There was no indication the lock or chain had been cut. The man stated he spoke with his neighbor and nothing had been observed overnight.
The man valued his boat at $2,900. The man also stated he had not registered the boat since moving to Florida ten years ago, but there was an out of state hull number. There was no record of the vessel. The man further stated he had a small, unknown make, 40 hp trolling motor inside the boat, valued at $200.
No suspects have been identified and due to the lack of vessel information, it could not be entered as stolen.
