Deputies are filing charges against two Palm Coast boys in connection with the theft of ammunition and $15,000 in jewelry from a Z-Section man's house March 8.

The victim, 74-year-old Zither Court resident Robert Horn, told deputies that he'd gone shopping that morning and returned at about 2:30 in the afternoon, finding the bedroom closet door open with the light on. A jewelry box that had held $15,000 in jewelry was gone, as were two boxes of ammunition, according to a Sheriff's Office case report.

He told a deputy that he'd left a sliding glass door unlocked while he was gone.

A neighbor told the deputy that one of the neighborhood kids had been in trouble in the past.  The deputy met with the boy's parents and with the boy, who denied involvement. Then the deputy spoke to one of the boy's friends, who said he was hanging out with the other boy, but was "inconsistent" on where they were and at what time.

One of the two boys ultimately admitted that they'd both been at the burglary victim's house, and that he'd seen the other boy go inside; one of the boys admitted to jumping a fence at the Zither Court home and stealing the jewelry and ammunition.

Deputies found the stolen property in one boy's garage, and returned it to Horn. The Sheriff's Office is filing charging affidavits on both boys with the State Attorney's Office.
