My grandmother always used to say, “Self-praise stinks.”

To me, those are very simple, very powerful words. It’s also a tough act to follow, but when someone offers me a compliment, I often need to remind myself to say thank you, and move on. There’s no need to embellish upon it. Humility is a trait that often gets overlooked, but I think it’s one of the best characteristic traits a person can possess.

I don’t always heed this advice, but I remind myself that I need to.

As it goes in Proverbs 27:2, “Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, not your own lips.”

Stay grounded, it will pay off in the long run and keep things in perspective.
