A motorcycle mechanic who has worked in England, Russia, Latvia, Germany, Canada and Estonia has found a new home for his business in Flagler County.

Juris Markans and his wife, Mary Markane, held a ribbon cutting ceremony Sept. 6 for Bad Roses Motorcycles, their custom motorcycle shop in Bunnell.

“We’re a full-service garage, and also a dealership,” Markane said.

The shop sells motorcycles and offers oil changes, tire changes, electronic diagnostics, customization, airbrushing and roadside assistance.

Markans has worked on cycles for the past 25 years, Markane said, and she first started riding motorcycles when her father took her on his bike when she was a toddler.

She worked for a district attorney in Manhattan and as a chief financial officer for a software company before returning to motorcycles.

She learned to ride last year.

“This is far from corporate America,” she said, “but it’s a lot of fun.”

Ford dealership offering lifetime warranties

Palm Coast Ford General Manager Don York says he cares about his customers, and he's willing to prove it: He's offering free lifetime powertrain warranties on his dealership's new Fords.

The deal started Sept. 2. Anyone who buys a new vehicle at Palm Coast Ford, with the exception of commercial, super-duty and diesel vehicles, can bring it back to any Ford dealership for repairs at no cost.

"There's no game here. There's no gimmicks. It's 100% real," York said.

York said he expects the warranty policy to benefit the dealership by bringing in new business and helping create loyal customers. Drivers making use of the lifetime warranty must be able to show that they’ve completed all scheduled maintenance on their vehicles, and the lifetime warranty kicks in after the five year, 60,000-mile manufacturer's warranty ends.

Palm Coast Ford's sister company Daytona Toyota also offers lifetime warranties, York said. It's a way to stand out from the competition.

"You have to be bold and daring to serparate yourself, and that's what we're going to do," he said.
